Muscat: WH Smith, the Sultanate's leading books, gifts, and novelties chain, is organising a book-signing event for Sami Jaffer, the Omani author who recently published his first book. Titled 'Adventures of the Shir Sha – Pharha's Quest', the book is a work of fiction about a young girl, Pharha, who goes on a journey from the safety of a small village to the depths of a land filled with mysterious people and strange creatures.
Some of these characters block her path, whereas others help her to walk further than she had ever imagined possible, in search of a mysterious old medicine man from the village. WH Smith, in line with its vision of promoting and encouraging local creative talents, is hosting the book-signing event at the Jawahrat Shati Mall outlet on February 21 between 11 am and 1 pm.
Debut author Sami Jaffer said, "The Adventures of the Shir Sha' are adventures that I hope to turn into a series of books, to inspire deeper thought and the right attitude in tackling problems, however big or small they may be. Patience, perseverance, and a fearless attitude towards obstacles in one's path all play a part in the lead character's possible success (in the book)."
He added, "Living in the Middle East, where role models for young women are few and far between, it was necessary to have a heroine at the centre of the story. I have always felt that this is an area of society that needs support and inspiration. My only hope is that this positive message will be heard by the new generation."
Jaffer has been writing for more than four years now and had initially gained fame through his articles, short stories, and screenplays, which were all well received by his readers. The favourable response motivated him to write his first full-fledged book.
