Muscat: An Indian expatriate woman was reportedly found dead, hanging from a ceiling fan, at her home in Kabourah late on Sunday night.
The 25-year-old woman, a mother of a three-year-old girl, has been identified as Thara Baiju from the South Indian state of Kerala.
"We don't know why she took this drastic step. We heard that Thara, Baiju (Thara's husband), and their kid had attended a neighbour's party and returned home late at night. After their return, Baiju went to the neighbour's house again to deliver something. When he returned to his house, he found Thara dead," Kerala Muslim Cultural Centre (KMCC) social workers told Times of Oman.
"The paperwork for dispatching the body is being completed with the help of the Indian Embassy," the social workers added.
Meanwhile, according to sources, this is the fourth case of an Indian committing suicide this month. "One case each from Salalah, Sur, and Nizwa has been reported since the beginning of this month. It is an alarming situation," Shameer PKT, a Muscat-based social worker, said.
In 2012, more than 50 Indians had reportedly committed suicide in the Sultanate.
