Stars Light stun HJB to enter quarterfinal stage

Muscat: Stars Light stunned Hasan Juma Backer (HJB) by registering an easy 6-wicket win to make it to the quarterfinals of the Khimji Ramdas-sponsored Intermediate Cup T20 tournament. The match was played during the weekend at MOS Ground No.1 at Al Amerat.

Invited to bat, HJB did well to reach 178 for the loss of 7 wickets at the end of its quota of 20 overs, thanks to a 79-run third-wicket partnership between opening batsman Usman Umar W., 54, and Mohammed Said Bashir, 71. Ummar Nayeem, coming in at the fall of the sixth wicket, chipped in with an unbeaten 29. Syed Taha and Rajesh Khetani picked up 2 wickets each, conceding 21 and 31 runs, respectively, off 4 overs each.

Stars Light, requiring 179 for victory, was off to a solid start, with openers Irtaza Ahmed, 51, and Mujtaba Ahmed, 34, putting together 85 runs for the first wicket off 7 overs. Mohsin Raza, coming in at the fall of the first wicket, made an unbeaten 47 to help Stars Light reach its target of 179 for the loss of 4 wickets off 18.3 overs. Roshan P.C. was the pick of the bowlers, with figures of 3 for 20 off 4 overs.

OCT Seeb win
A brilliant all-round performance from Sufyan Mohammed, who made an unbeaten 94 and bowling figures of 3 for 30 off 4 overs, helped OCT Seeb register an exciting 6-wicket win against Carillion Alawi, earning the team a place in the quarterfinals of the Khimji Ramdas-sponsored Intermediate Cup T20 knock-out tournament in a match played at the same venue during the afternoon session.

Deciding to bat, Carillion Alawi was restricted to 155 for the loss of 9 wickets at the end of the 20th over. Gurmit Ram, coming in at the fall of the first wicket, made a top score of 45, whilst opening batsman Nasib Singh chipped in with a useful 36. Issam Othman picked up 2 wickets, conceding 28 runs off 4 overs, to lend valuable support to Sufyan.

OCT Seeb, requiring 6 runs off the last over, reached its target with a delivery to spare, losing 4 wickets in the process, thanks to two useful partnerships involving Sufyan: a third-wicket partnership of 71 runs with Dhiyab Hussain, 19, and a fourth-wicket partnership that yielded 53 runs with skipper Yousif Rahim, 18. Ram Hridaya claimed 2 of the 4 wickets to fall, giving away 30 runs off 4 overs.

Mohan Kannan excels
Skipper Mohan Kannan, with impressive bowling figures of 4 for 18 off 4 overs, helped Indian Social Club (ISC) record a massive 9-wicket win against Atkins and qualify for a quarterfinal spot in the Khimji Ramdas-sponsored Intermediate Cup T20 knock-out tournament in a match played at Municipality Ground No.1 at Al Amerat.

Electing to bat, Atkins was bundled out for 99 off 16.4 overs, with Javed Ashraf making a top score of 21. The bowlers to cause the debacle, together with Mohan, were Abbas Naqvi and Shreyas Malhotra, who claimed 2 wickets each, conceding 23 and 24 runs, respectively, off 4 overs each.

ISC raced to the target, scoring 100 runs for the loss of 1 wicket off 11.3 overs, thanks to an opening partnership of 62 runs between Pranav Mehta, 58 Not Out, and Nishit Punja, 21.
