Muscat:
The Muscat Hills Club Championship was held over two days on the week end. The pivotal tournament of the year for club members featured more than 60 competitors, who wanted to claim the Club Champion title for 2013.
The champions were declared after a trying 36-hole tournament, which saw Sachin Bawa win his first Club Championship and defending champion Sanjoli Singh win her third consecutive title in the Ladies Club Championship.
Vikas Dixit led the field after round one, with an excellent score of 77 gross. Bawa was two strokes behind Dixit while heading into the final round, but he managed to catch up on the two-shot margin at the second hole when Dixit had trouble on the tough Par-5 second hole at Muscat Hills. Sachin Bawa also narrowly defeated close rival Humayun Kabir by 1 stroke.
Humayun Kabir managed to score the lowest gross of the tournament, with a superb 75, which catapulted him into second position for the tournament. Sachin Bawa played steady golf throughout the tournament and was consistent enough to win the Muscat Hills Club Championship title with scores of 79 + 81 (160). Defending champion Puli Sharma was also a close contender once again; playing in the final group, Sharma finished 6 shots behind the winner, despite dropping 5 shots over the last 4 holes.
Sanjoli Singh became the Ladies Club Champion for the third consecutive year, defeating her rivals by a staggering 24 shots. Sanjoli was awarded the trophy to keep for the achievement of three consecutive wins.
