Vagner Love believes that his return to the Russian Premier League with three-time champions CSKA Moscow can help him attract the attention of Brazil coach Luiz Felipe Scolari and kickstart his international career.
"The times when Brazilian national manager completely ignored those compatriots who played in the Eastern Europe have passed," the 28-year-old forward was quoted as saying by www.championat.com.
"Some very strong footballers, who are closely watched by the national squad headquarters, are currently playing in Russia," said Vagner, whose last appearances with the national side date back to 2007.
"A successful performance in the Russian league or the European cups may become a reason for a call-up into the national side."
A host of Brazilian players are major stars in the Russian and Ukrainian leagues but many have expressed fear in the past that their absence from the Brazilian and Western European leagues has left them all but forgotten by the national sides.
Vagner, in his second spell at CSKA after a seven-year stint between 2004 and 2001, said top-class individual performances alone were maybe not enough to receive a call into Brazilian national squad, where competition for places is extremely tough.
"Of course I dream about playing for Brazil at the World Cup next year," Vagner said. "But it's an extremely tough task and to do that you need not only to be a skilled footballer but also to be a member of the winning team.
"That's why I'll do my best to help CSKA to win their fourth Russian title this year. I'm still hungry for success and returned to CSKA to win more trophies."
Vagner earned two Copa America titles with Brazil in 2004 and 2007, won two Russian titles (2005 and 2006), five Russian Cups (2005, 2006, 2008, 2009 and 2011) and the UEFA Cup in 2005 with CSKA before returning to Brazil in 2011.
CSKA currently lead the Russian league with 43 points from 19 matches, two points ahead of second-placed Anzhi Makhachkala. The championship, which is currently on a winter break, resumes on March 9.
