Kochi: The state is set in get its first laboratory of Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) at Kochi. Along with gold, various items listed under the BIS Act 1986 will be examined in the lab.
Union Minister of state for Food and Public distribution K V Thomas said that the state government has allotted 30 cents of land for the laboratory at the Eutopena Economic
community building at Maradu.
"The BIS has its office in Thiruvananthapuram but not a laborary. Manufacturers have to travel all the way to Coimbatore, Chennai or Bangalore to get their products tested.
The new lab would easily settle this issue," he said.
