Muscat: The violence in Bangladesh has also taken a toll on trade and commerce. "A lot of goods are getting stuck in transit before they reach the airport.
So, unless the situation changes for the better in the coming days, exports will nosedive," stated a fish and vegetable exporter in Hamriya. Since Thursday, imports of Bangladeshi goods to Oman have reduced, forcing many Bangladeshi workers out of their jobs. "There is no work for us since very few goods are arriving from Bangladesh," rued Mokbul Hossain at Hamriya.
Several Bangladeshi brands, including Pran mustard oil and Radhuni spices, are very popular in Oman. Bangladeshi exports to Oman include processed and live fish, betel leaves, vegetables, raw jute and jute goods, knitwear, leather goods, and printed materials.
