Muscat: A seminar on 'Misleading advertisements' began yesterday under the patronage of Sultan bin Hamdoun Al Harthy, Chairman of Muscat Municipality.
The seminar, which is being organised by Oman Association for Consumer Protection (OACP), discussed experiences of the neighbouring countries in combating the problem of misleading advertisements and what is related to food data card, as well as the advertisements between the promotional objectives and professional ethics.
Ahmed bin Abdullah Al Khonji, member of OACP, said that the seminar follows the complaints of consumers against products that do not meet the claims of advertisements. He added that the seminar aims at disseminating the culture of self-censorship and activating the role of consumer awareness.
The manufacturers indulge in such activities due to commercial interests, he said.
