Muscat: The 11th edition of Indian Social Club Kerala Wing's 'Muscat Keralotsavam' will be held on May 1, 2 and 3, the wing representatives said.
"For the past 10 years, 'Muscat Keralotsavam' has proved to be a very prestigious event in the Sultanate displaying a tremendous increase in the level of participation and bringing out talents year after year. This year, as we have organised the festival on the theme of women's empowerment, Indian film, television and theatre actress Shabana Azmi will be the chief guest. Both Omani and Indian cultural programmes will be organised during the three-day event focused on the theme," P. M. Jabir, 'Muscat Keralotsavam' programme committee chairman, said.
"Muscat Keralotsavam is considered to be the second most happening event in Oman after Muscat Festival, both in terms of level of participation and extent of cultural activities," he added.
The three-day festival will be held at Marah Land in Qurum National Park.
According to the organisers, the major attractions of the festival include an array of traditional art forms of Kerala like Panchavadyam, Chendamelam, Maargamkali, Maappilapattu, Thiruvathirakali, Oppana, Nadanpattu, folk dances from different languages and culture and such other cultural programmes performed by artistes, with an aim to transport each and all to a perfect feel of Kerala.
There will also be local Omani folk dances to enthral the audience.
"Shabana Azmi's relative and media person Thanvi Azmi will also be present at the festival," the organisers said adding that they are expecting around 25,000 people per day during the festival. In 2012, nearly 20,000 people attended the festival each day.
