Muscat: The Ministry of Regional Municipalities and Water Resources has announced that it's speeding up the construction of Wadi Emtee Dam in Izki — at an estimated cost of OMR3.98 million — and declared that 27.5 per cent of the project has been completed so far.

The materials used for the construction of the small dam comprise reinforced concrete along with 100-metre-long spillways and 10-metre tall docks. The site will be equipped with devices that will measure water outfall, leakage, and temperature. The total area of the reservoir is around 52 sq. km. It is 145 metres long and is located at a height of 17.5 metres above sea level. The reservoir has a storage capacity of 630,000 cubic metres with 100-metre-long spillway.

Meanwhile, in another development, the ministry is participating in the third conference on water treatment in Riyadh.

The meet will continue for the next two days. Hassna bint Harith Al Busaidi, head of the water safety and sanitation department, is  representing the Omani ministerial delegation. The conference will also discuss issues related to human resources and water treatment in the GCC.
