OAMC to honour aviation staff with retail awards

Muscat: In a bid to motivate employees of airlines and airports services in Oman and to ensure that they work even harder to improve the existing amenities at the airport and within the airlines, the Oman Airports Management Company (OAMC), responsible for the management and operation of the leading airports in Oman, yesterday said that the maiden airlines and airports' retails awards will be held at the Shangri-La's Barr Al Jissah Resort, here, on October 21.

Announcing the launching of awards, Vic Allen, acting chief executive of OAMC, said, "This award is a tribute those workers who work behind the scene. Muscat airport alone has 6,000 to 7,000 workers doing a fantastic job in serving 7 million passengers going out and coming in. The awards are being instituted to recognise and reward the best airport management, services and hospitality practices across Muscat International and Salalah Airports."

Regional, global players
"Given the market challenges that our sector is facing on a global level at the moment, this is a perfect opportunity to remember those companies and individuals that continue to achieve excellence on a daily basis.

"The OAMC Awards will recognise airlines, airport operators and aviation service providers that have helped to establish the airport facilities at par with the industry leaders on the global stage," he added.

The nominees will include a combination of regional and international players who have gone above and beyond in terms of their industry contribution. The 2013 award ceremony will include the following categories: Best Low Cost, Best Inflight Service, Fastest Growing, Best Airline Marketing, Best Cargo Airline, Best Muscat Airport Service, Best Salalah Airport Service, 2013 Debut Airlines Recognition, Best Retailers (Restaurant, Coffee Shop and Food).

Shaikh Aiman Al Hosni, general manager of Muscat Airport, said, "We had conducted a  survey  this year which evaluates the total passenger experience in 2013 and based on the feedback the committee will decide the winners."

"More than anything, the OAMC Awards will showcase Oman and its burgeoning aviation industry. On one hand it will take the Sultanate's name far and wide and on the other it will further motivate the various individuals and organisations currently engaged in the Omani aviation sector to boost their ambitions and achieve regional as well as international recognition," Al Hosni explained.

The OAMC Awards will become an important calendar event over the years as it will profile and showcase the hard work of all airport stakeholders.

This will further enhance the quality of services in all divisions, boost the spirit of camaraderie and put Oman's airports on the global aviation map as one of the best in airport management, experiences and hospitality.

The awards will become a benchmark for all our global partners to continually improve the passenger experience.
