One injured as truck rolls over SUV in Bausher
: A truck carrying stones rolled over in Al Meena area of Bausher wilayat on 7 January, 2014. One person suffered minor injuries in the mishap.

Chinese delegation visits  Sohar University campus
Muscat: Sohar University administrative officials received a delegation of China's Ministry of Education on Sunday morning as part of an international and experimental exchange programme. The delegation exchanged its experiences with the Sohar University about sending Chinese students to the SULC to learn Arabic language for non-Arabic speakers, on a short and long term period basis, which may extend over the years. The delegation invited Sohar University students and teachers to visit China. The delegation came up with a variety of proposals on various issues and expressed a keen interest in getting feedback from Sohar University. The proposals included a number of scholarships for Sohar University's staff and students, especially those enrolled in its post graduation programme.

'Yes…To Oman' tourism campaign launched
Musandam: In an initiative to promote the Sultanate's tourism sector, the Oman Visitors Portal has launched its official advertisement initiative titled 'Yes…To Oman' as part of a strategy to boost tourism in the country by showcasing its natural beauty. The year-long campaign will run across all the governorates. Apart from the main website of the portal, all e-marketing tools such as Facebook, Twitter and other forums will be used not just locally but across the Gulf. The ceremony to launch the initiative was held under the auspices of Sayyid Khalifa bin Al Mirdas Al Busaidi, Musandam Governor in the presence of some officials from the governorate at the Atana Khasab Hotel. Apart from the launch of 'Yes to Oman' promotional branding campaign, a promotional tourism film depicting footage of some of the breathtaking scenes in Oman that have a huge tourism potential was also exhibited. In an effort to involve all segments of the society, the portal management also announced a photography competition along with the launch of "Yes ... to Oman" campaign.

SQU's VC hosts Palestinian Education Minister
Muscat: Dr Ali bin Saud  Al Bimani, Vice-Chancellor of Sultan Qaboos University (SQU), received in his office yesterday  Dr Ali Zaidan Abu Zuhri, Palestinian Minister of Education. The meeting was attended by the Palestinian ambassador to the Sultanate and the accompanying delegation. The two sides discussed areas of cooperation with SQU in the research and scientific areas, and in water research. Dr Al Bimani said that SQU welcomes the cooperation with various parties and benefits from their experience. For his part, the Palestinian Minister of Education said that scientific research is a priority for them, and added that their focus is on water, information technology, nanotechnology, agriculture and other related fields.
