HM, Italian premier discuss ties

The Italian prime minister also visited Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque and was briefed about its architectural design

Muscat: His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said granted audience to Professor Mario Monti, Prime Minister of the Italian Republic, at Bait Al Baraka.

The meeting reviewed the good relations between the two countries and ways of their enhancement in the various spheres for the interest of the people of the two countries.

The meeting was attended by Darwish bin Ismael Al Balushi, Minister Responsible for Financial Affairs, Mohammed bin Al Zubair, Advisor to His Majesty the Sultan for Economic Planning Affairs, Dr Omar bin Abdulmoneim Al Zawawi, Special Advisor to His Majesty for External Liaison, Ali bin Masaud Al Sunaidi, Minister of Commerce and Industry, Sayyid Badr bin Hamad bin Hamoud Al Busaidi, Secretary-General of the Foreign Ministry and the delegation accompanying the guest.

The Italian premier visited Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque in the company of Habib bin Mohammed Al Riyami, Secretary-General of Sultan Qaboos Higher Centre for Culture and Science.

During his visit to the mosque, he was briefed about the history of the construction of the mosque and familiarised himself with the architectural Omani and Islamic designs of the mosque. He was also briefed about the various centres of the mosque and the roles they play.

The Italian prime minister arrived in Oman on a one-day work visit. He was received upon his arrival by His Highness Sayyid Haitham bin Tariq Al Said, Sayyid Badr bin Hamad bin Hamoud Al Busaidi, Secretary-General of the Foreign Ministry, Paula Amadi, Ambassador of the Republic of Italy to the Sultanate, and members of the embassy.

The visit is aimed at boosting the bilateral cooperation between the Sultanate and the Italian Republic. The Italian premier is accompanied by Pasquale Terracciano, diplomatic advisor to the prime minister.
