Muscat: It is the day of judgement for the top ranked junior tennis players in the country as Nevil Philips of the Indian Social Club Muscat takes on top ranked Omani Younis Al Rawahi in the clash of titans at the ISC-Muscat Pharmacy Open Junior Tennis Tournament organised by the Indian Social Club Muscat.
Curtains will come down this evening on the two-week long tournament which has been dominated by brilliant performances by talented Omani players. ISC's Nevil Philips will attempt to settle a score with Younis Al Rawahi when he takes on the top ranked Omani in the final of the boys' under-18 singles at 6.30pm this evening.
Nevil Philips, the top seed advanced to the summit clash after over-powering third seed Kenneth Vaz in straight sets 6-4, 6-3. Second seed Younis Al Rawahi earned his place in the summit clash after overcoming fourth seed Ahmed Al Barwani in a hard-fought 6-4, 6-4 result. Ahmed put in a brilliant fight and rallied from 2-4 down to level at 4-all. Younis held in the crucial ninth game and broke Ahmed to win the first set. After four deuces, Ahmed broke in the first game of the second set but there was no respite for him as Younis won a place in the final.
The top seeded duo of Nevil Philips and Armaan Sattikar will take on third seeded Indo-Omani team of Kenneth Vaz and Zakariya Al Suleimani in the junior doubles final. The top seeds overcame the pair of Yash Tanna and Alen Tom convincingly 6-1, 6-0 in the semifinal while Kenneth and Zakariya put in a splendid show of teamwork to stun Abdullah Al Barwani and Younis Al Rawahi in a thrilling semi-final which Kenneth and Zakariya won 6-3, 6-3, 10-6.
