Muscat: The Red Bull Local Hero Tour 2014 is set to be held in Oman this weekend on March 28 and 29. The first-time event promises to be a weekend of pure skateboarding and will include international Red Bull Skateboarding athlete, Jean Marc. The international athlete has risen to the top after nine years of competing and is coming to Oman for the two-day eventwhich will also include aworkshop, on March 28. After the workshop Jean-Marc will judge the competition the next day as the skateboarders go head-to-head to see who will be crowned the Omani "Local Hero."

Born and raised in South Africa, Jean-Marc is highly skilled in the forgotten art of switch; mastering most moves either regular or switch. He has a motto, 'think fast, but move slow,' which many people believe is the very reason why he hasn't broken bones going for the massive moves he does. When JM's not skating, he's on his guitar and believes that in skateboarding, as in music, there are no boundaries or limitations.

Talking about his upcoming trip to Oman, Jean-Marc, says: "I have heard so many great things about Oman from friends of mine that have been there. I was delighted when I found out I was going! I couldn't believe I was actually going to skate there with all the other riders from Oman. I am beyond exited to get there and I'm really excited to meet and skate with everyone, as well as to see the riders nail some tricks in the contest!"

Jean-Marc is best known for thinking up new and crazy tricks. He explores concepts and ideas, and puts them into action, to the amazement of spectators and other skaters alike. As a result, Best Trick awards often come his way. "Skateboarding has given me many things," reckons Jean-Marc. "It has made me realise that being happy is the most important thing in life. Skateboarding has given me a sense of direction, and a focus in life. It has helped me realise who I am."

The event will be held at Muscat Grand Mall and is the perfect opportunity for local skaters to enjoy a hands-on workshop. This year the local competition will take place at 4:00pm on Saturday, 29 with tricks and tips to crown the Local Hero.
