Muscat: A conference, which is part of Oman's leading IT and Telecom Show, Comex 2014, will provide a good opportunity to formulate a blueprint for Oman's ICT development, according to officials at the Information Technology Authority (ITA).

The expo is scheduled to be held from April 7 to 11 at the Oman International Exhibition Centre. It  will highlight the latest consumer gadgets, business and government solutions made available in Oman by local and international private sector representatives from the IT and telecom industry through its three main pavilions Comex Business, eGovernment and Comex Shopper.

The 5th Comex Conference, which will bring together national and international experts from different domains to engage in positive discussions, is being held on the theme of 'mobility'.

The conference will take place from April 8 to 9 at the Golden Tulip Hotel in Seeb and will be focusing on real time communication applications and services available for businesses to transform employee engagement and productivity through mobility.

The conference will also address the trends and challenges in mobility with an aim to ensure future strategic deployment of ICT technologies in Oman.

The Comex Conference 2014 will receive support from Omantel as main sponsor; Cisco and Avaya as platinum sponsors; and Ericsson as gold sponsor.

36 government institutions from around the world
According to the ITA, 36 government institutions would participate in Comex this year, along with some government agencies from Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Estonia, Singapore, and Lithuania.
Apart from the conference, daily workshops will be held on the sidelines of the expo, and there will be a special zone for eSecurity, ePayments, eAccessibility and eLearning.

The new initiatives at this year's edition include the Comex Matchmaking platform, which will ensure that participating companies are matched with prospective business partners. It plans a target of achieving 600 business match makings during the show.

Shilpa Ashar, project manager at the Oman International Trade and Exhibitions (OITE), recently told the Times of Oman that more than 75 companies will be represented at the event.

Half of them are local companies, she said, adding that 15 to 20 countries are going to showcase their products, including Singapore, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Malaysia, India, the UK, and France. According to her, major international participants include Microsoft, Avaya, Ericsson and Cisco.
