Muscat: The Omani and Spanish officials signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on strengthening cooperation between the two countries in the field of transport at Al Alam Palace guesthouse on Wednesday.
The MoU was signed by Dr. Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Futaisi, Minister of Transport and Communications while it was signed by Ana Maria Pastor Julian, Minister of Infrastructure from the Spanish side.
The MoU includes cooperation in several areas, including sharing experiences, development of existing consultation procedures with a view to exchanging information and assessing growth and development of transport sector, development of transport laws and regulations, as well as supporting the planning and development of projects in the transport sector.
Chairman of State Council
King Juan Carlos I of Spain received at Al Alam Palace Guesthouse Dr. Yahya bin Mahfoudh Al Mantheri, Chairman of the State Council.
During the meeting, the leaders discussed existing cooperation between the two countries and means of enhancing them in various fields particularly in the parliamentary field.
Dr. Al Mantheri told the King of Spain the role played by the Council of Oman comprising the State Council and the Majlis Al Shura, as well as serving His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said since the beginning of the Blessed Renaissance with the citizens' participation in the process of development and the building of state.
He pointed out that the development in the Sultanate has passed various stages with the participation of Municipal Councils and civil community.
King Juan Carlos I of the Kingdom of Spain hailed the Omani experience in the field of development and parliament.
Majlis Al Shura
King Juan Carlos I also met Khalid bin Hilal Al Ma'awali, Chairman of the Majlis Al Shura.
The meeting reviewed bilateral cooperation between the two countries particularly in the legislative field. Al Ma'awali gave a briefing to the King on the growth march of the Majlis Al Shura in the Sultanate.
He also apprised the Spanish King about the legislative and oversight tools granted to the Majlis and its permanent committees and their role in studying the draft laws, in addition to conducting studies and research.
Al Ma'awali affirmed that the Majlis enjoys the full support of His Majesty the Sultan.
