Annual juicy mango fiesta kicks off at Lulu Hypermarket in Oman

Muscat: The annual juicy excitement has kicked off at the Mango Fiesta at the Lulu Hypermarket in Oman. The "king of the fruits" is back again this summer. Mangoes — the richly hued tropical fruit entices the taste buds of the residents each year with its juicy flavour and fragrance.

The eighth edition of Mango Fiesta was inaugurated by J. S. Mukul, the Ambassador of India to the Sultanate, on Wednesday at Lulu Bausher.

The fiesta showcases 101 varieties of mango. Alphonso, Badami, Langra, Totapuri are some of the types that are currently displayed at the ongoing fiesta, all sourced from Oman, India, Kenya, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Brazil, Mexico and Sri Lanka. The recent past has seen a marked rise in cultivation of Omani mangoes.

According to statistics, Oman produced 10,200 tonnes of mangoes in 2010. The fiesta also offers various processed and packed mango products ranging from jams, pickles, pulps, chutneys, cakes to widespread variety of different products.

Ananth A. V., the Regional Director of Lulu Oman, said, "The annual event has been extremely successful as our consumers anticipate the fiesta and look forward to it. This is important to us because it helps in connecting more closely with our customers by offering them our best tropical collection.
The king of fruit has always remained a favourite in the Omani market and this reason calls for celebration."

The Mango Fiesta will offer samplings of tasty mango-inspired food items at the festival. These delicious food items will be featured on the market shelves, along with refreshing, mango-inspired beverages. The highlights of the festival include fun and games for kids on weekends and a lot more promotional activities for the customers during the weekends.

Shifa Al Zadjali, a shopper said, "Every year, I manage to visit the mango festival. The taste and quality is good. It is really commendable that the store has a wide variety. My favourite is the Alphonso and there are many that I haven't tried yet, so I look forward to trying those. I really love this season."
