Oman Weather: Jebel Akhdar receives rain while Muscat sizzles at 45C

Al Rous /Jebel Akhdar: Even as mercury level hovered around 45 degrees Celsius in Muscat, in many parts of Jebel Akhdar, temperature was around 23 degrees Celsius on Monday.

Moreover, many areas in Jebel Akhdar witnessed rain and hailstorm in the afternoon.

Those who experienced extreme summer in Muscat during the last two days were delighted with the cool temperatures and rain in Jebel Akhdar.

"I visited Muscat on Sunday. It was too hot. But it is very comfortable to be in Jebel Akhdar and enjoy this climate," Juvana, a worker from the Philippines and employed with a resort in Jebel Akhdar, said. The rains and hailstorm resulted in formation of several waterfalls on the mountains of Jebel Akhdar.

According to Yahoo weather report, the maximum temperature recorded in Jebel Akhdar and neighbouring areas was 27 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature was 23 degrees Celsius.

Meanwhile, according to the Sultanate's met department, the maximum temperature in Muscat was 45 degrees Celsius.

According to the 48 hour forecast from the met department, the skies will be partly cloudy along the coastal areas of Dhofar Governorate and adjoining mountains with possibility  of intermittent drizzle.

"There are also chances of late night formation of early morning low level clouds along the coastal areas of Al Wusta and South Al  Sharqiyah governorates. Mainly clear skies will be witnesses over the rest of the Sultanate with chance of convective cloud development and isolated rain over Al Hajar mountains during afternoon," the forecast adds.
