December 4, 2012 | 12:00 AM

Muscat: Oman Football Association (OFA) is all geared-up to organise the two-day BankDhofar sponsored Beach Five tournament which will be held at the North Al Hail beach. According to the organisers, 64 teams have registered for the tournament which will conclude on Friday. With four round-robin games, the teams will be competing in 16 groups.

"We have got an overwhelming response from the teams and we have got few additional teams also in fray," said Sarah Boehm, events executive at OFA speaking to the media. "Those who would like to register a team on the alternate list can still do so at the OFA office at Seeb Stadium," Sarah said.

The tournament kicks off from 9am onwards and the knock-out will decide the winner on Friday. The prizes to the winners will be presented by BankDhofar CEO Tony Mahoney. The event supports OFA's efforts in growing the game of football amongst young people in Oman and is a great opportunity to get involved with the community.

Spectator activities including a penalty shootout competition with women and children divisions, horse riding, a live DJ and a bodybuilding show have also been arranged. "We would like to welcome the families to come out in large numbers and be part of this festival" Sarah said.

There will also be an |"I-run-man" competition which is open for all to participate and involves running and swimming across to the finish line for a chance to win some fabulous prizes. OFA head of physiotherapy Harry Brooke will be running fitness tests on both days on the beach.

BankDhofar's Patrick Lloyd-Bradley said: "We are proud to sponsor such a great community event with support from the OFA. It is through events such as the BankDhofar Beach Fives Tournament that we can give football enthusiasts in the Sultanate the chance to play in a competitive environment but also create a fun-filled weekend for families." looking to come down and support the players and enjoy all of the fun activities we have available on-event." The final will be held at 4pm on Friday.
