Muscat: Telecom operators in Oman are trying to raise the public's awareness about phone fraud to prevent victims from falling into the traps set by swindlers Following is Nawras' advisory: "Nawras urges the public to be aware of potential fraud calls or SMS messages. To avoid falling victim to such scams, please validate any suspicious text messages or calls from strangers, especially those that announce that you have won something or that request you to validate your account details or any other personal information, including PIN numbers, codes or passwords.

Text messages and calls of this nature usually aim to solicit money or prepaid recharges from you, so it is best not to respond to such requests. In all cases, do not give out any personal information over the phone or by SMS, under any circumstances. Nawras would also request that customers immediately report any suspicious text messages or calls to Nawras.

Please also note that Nawras will never ask members of the public for money or prepaid recharges upon winning a promotion."
