December 7, 2012 | 12:00 AM

Muscat: Saud Nassir Al Shukaily, secretary-general of taxation, Ministry of Finance, will inaugurate a one-day workshop on Oman taxation being organised by Crowe Horwath on December 10 at Al Falaj Hotel. Oman tax laws have undergone drastic changes during the last two years, said Davis Kallukaran, managing partner of Horwath Mak Ghazali, a member firm of Crowe Horwath in Oman.

"The totally restructured laws had been drafted to allow more concessions to the tax payers. At the same time, it has brought to net many new tax payers. During the last nine months of 2012, tax revenue has gone up by 36.8 per cent to RO327 million. As of September, custom duties and corporate taxes alone have contributed $2.5 billion to the national economy, which is 61.3 per cent more than the revenue of the same period last year.  The huge increase in the revenue points to the better performance of Oman economy and the efficient process of tax administration," added Kallukaran.

The workshop will conclude with a separate session on tax heavens at Crowe Horwath Dubai.
