Ghubra Power and Desalination firm achieves 90 per cent Omanisation

Muscat: Amid reports of expats leaving jobs on account of Omanisation, Al Ghubra Power and Desalination Company has achieved 90 per cent Omanisation at the managerial level positions, according to Ali Al Raisi, chief executive officer of the company.

Speaking at an Iftar party organised by the company for its staff recently, Ali Al Raisi said that the company has achieved its Omanisation target of 90 per cent in the managerial positions, including the CEO who is an Omani.

"Now, we are working on Omanisation at the level of heads of departments, because the idea of Omanisation in the company begins from the highest positions, then managerial position, the middle level positions and then down the ranks," he said.

Al Raisi said that 60 per cent of people in the Muscat governorate depend on Al Ghubra Power and Desalination Company. He lauded the government's initiatives, particularly the role played by the Public Authority of Electricity and Power, to build new power and water stations and distribution networks.

Quoting the data with the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI), the Times of Oman had reported yesterday that 82,000 expats working in private sector had left their jobs between January 2013 and May 2014. While the number of expats working in the private sector was 1,330,089 at the end of January 2013, it was 1,248,859 by the end of May, 2014. NCSI statistics also highlighted that workers from India, Bangladesh, and Pakistan represent 87 per cent of the total number of expatriate workers in Oman, totalling 1,329,630.
