Muscat: The Embassy of Lebanon issued a statement here on Wednesday denouncing a report broadcast by a Lebanese TV channel on the health condition of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, saying that the report was baseless and reaffirming that the Lebanese people hold His Majesty the Sultan in high esteem and value the warm relations with the brotherly people of Oman.

The statement reads as follows:
"On Sunday, August 17, 2014, one of the Lebanese TV channels broadcast a report on the health condition of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos in a haphazard manner not based on any official source.

"This triggered a wave of denouncing reactions and objections among the dear people of Oman and the Lebanese community in the Sultanate.

"The Lebanese Embassy in Muscat, acting in line with the instructions of the Lebanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants, hereby expresses its extreme astonishment and regret for broadcasting of such a report by a Lebanese media channel.

"The embassy voices the great respect and appreciation of Lebanon-government and people for His Majesty Sultan Qaboos and underscores the depth of ties between the brotherly peoples of both countries, which we always wish to foster in the common interest of both countries.

"While the Lebanese embassy in Muscat affirms its keenness on the freedom of the media, it would like to draw the attention of all to the importance of maintaining prudence and truthfulness when disseminating news, especially when it pertains to the symbol of a sisterly state...Act within the norms of accuracy and objectivity and in line with media values.

"May the Almighty grant His Majesty the Sultan continuous success, good health and a long life and the brotherly people of Oman further stability, progress and prosperity under the patronage of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos, the Architect of Oman's blessed renaissance."
