ROP arrests 174 illegal expatriates

Muscat: The Royal Oman Police (ROP) carried out raids at a number of locations in Athaiba area of Muscat Governorate during which 174 people belonging to Asian nationalities were arrested. Of those arrested, 142 were violators of labour law and 32 were charged with violating Residency Law.

An ROP official said the raids were conducted with the support of Special Task Force Command and the Directorate General of Inquiries and Criminal Investigations (DGCID).
Earlier, the police  had received information that many illegal expatriates were residing in the Wilayat of Bousher. Citizens living in these areas had also complained to the police that these expatriates were indulging in criminal activities.

Following search and investigation operations in coordination with the Public Prosecution, raids were conducted in these areas and over 170 people were apprehended in Athaiba. The ROP official stressed on the importance of compliance with employment laws. He lauded the citizens and residents for cooperating with the ROP by reporting any offence on the emergency number 9999.

Thief arrested

Muscat police have arrested a person on the charges of stealing cash and vandalising a vehicle after breaking into a car parked in a Muscat area. The accused was arrested Following investigations and search operation and the case has been referred to Public Prosecution.

Meanwhile, the ROP has advised motorists not to leave their cars unlocked or with the engines running. They should also not park their vehicles for long periods in deserted areas.
