Badr Al Samaa Sohar organises seminar

Sohar: Badr Al Samaa Sohar organized a Continuing Medical Education programme (CME) on 'Eustachian Tube Dysfunction' by Dr. Sudhakar, ENT Surgeon and 'Chronic Fissure in Ano and Management' by Dr. K K. Jayakumar, general surgeon at Crowne Plaza, Sohar as part of its tenth anniversary celebration.

Medical seminar on diabetes was also organized for the corporate officials at Crowne Plaza Sohar. The colloquium was taken by Dr.Sajeev Kumar, internist. The function was inaugurated by managing director V.T Vinod, in the presence of Naveej, general manager, Dr. Justin Augustine and group marketing manager K O Devassy and Manoj Kumar, branch manager.

The number of people with diabetes in Oman in 2010 was 1, 82 000. Approximately 1000 deaths were directly attributable to diabetes in Oman in 2010. The most alarming thing is that 50% of the people are not aware of their diabetes. People who have family history of diabetes are at high risk of developing diabetes. Other risk factors being sedentary life style, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and obesity etc.

The most common symptoms of diabetes are excessive thirst, excessive hunger, increased urination, weight loss and fatigue. People with diabetes should undergo at least the following tests regularly which include fasting blood sugar, 2 hour postprandial blood sugar, HBA1C, Lipid profile, kidney function tests. They should also check their heart and eyes regularly.

Manoj Kumar, branch manager delivered welcome address and Murali Das, proposed vote of thanks. Speakers were awarded with memento by Dr.Mohammed Kamal, head of Quality Control –North Batinah region.
