December 20, 2012 | 12:00 AM

The first Aster Kids Group was inaugurated at the Grand Hyatt Hotel with a massive turnout of over 200 children and families. Countries represented included China, South Africa and the UK as well as from nearer home with many from Oman, India, Sri Lanka and all points in between. In attendance was the chief guest for the evening, Dr Yasmin bint Ahmed bin Jaffer, general director of The Family and Community Health Department. Specialised in mother and childcare, she has been a renowned name in the Ministry of Health for almost three decades and continues to serve the society. She was joined by Dr Alia bint Mahmood Al Khasaibi, Undersecretary Office for Health Affairs, Directorate of Private Health Establishment Affairs.

The Aster Kids Group is an initiative of Al Raffah Hospital in Oman, itself a part of the Aster Hospital group. The group, for which membership is free, is an exclusive healthcare group for kids with the aim of creating awareness about health promotion and disease prevention. They aim to do this in a fun atmosphere that keeps the kids engaged from an early age and through into adulthood. The group will help discover ways to improve family health through an enjoyable, open platform for kids to participate, develop and maintain healthy lifestyles through various activities.

Seeniya Biju, chief operating officer of Al Raffah Hospitals, and the driving force behind the Aster Kids Group concept, sees many benefits to the group and is confident that given the right motivation and support, they can grow up to be stronger, healthier and happier.
