December 4, 2012 | 12:00 AM

Muscat: Dunkin Donut/Wasalak and PPTEP Eagles entered the quarterfinals of the Filipino Muscat Ballers (FMB)/Filipino Community Social Club (FILCOSOC) All Filipino Basketball Tournament via hard fought games against separate opponents.

In the wild card matches held recently at the Marahland Dunkin Donut/Wasalak edged out Oman Slashers 72 -70.

With Dunkin Donut leading in the last minute of the game, Salik and Rabida of Oman Slashers made shots from beyond the arc and almost gave the much needed win for their team. But CJ Macaspac of Dunkin Donut had other things in mind as he made a crucial basket to hand Wasalak a shot in the quarterfinals. In the other game, PTTEP Eagles won over Al Jun/Haya 76-75. It was a battle royale from start to finish with the lead changing hands in almost every shot.  In the last two minutes, players from both teams sporting jersey No. 1 scored the last baskets, Alvarez for the winning team and Francisco for Al Jun/Haya. Crucial misses from the free throw area by Francisco handed the win to PTTEP Eagles.

According to Tournament Commissioner Erick R. De Jesus, the quarterfinals will start today with Dunkin Donut/Wasalak squaring it off with Badr Al Samaa/Mars in the first game at 1930 hours and PTTEP Eagles battling Barangay Ginebra – Oman in the second game.

Commissioner De Jesus also added that he expects a mammoth crowd to witness the games being the premier and only All Filipino Basketball League in the Sultanate.

PTTEP Eagles Manager Jojo Trugillo, co-chairman of FMB, promised to give the audience their money's worth by trying to get a win over the much favoured team of Art Parole, the Barangay Ginebra – Oman.  Manager Trugillo added that he has the right material to score an upset and admitted that Barangay Ginebra – Oman is in for a big surprise.

Dunkin Donut/Wasalak playing coach and FMB co-vice chairman Alain Garcia will have his hands full in trying to register a win against the much taller team of Coach Clarence Carlos, Badr Al Samaa/Mars, who is parading with 6-foot 7 Don Yabut. A win by Dunkin Donut/Wasalak is however not farfetched as shown by their win over semi finalists Barangay Ginebra Oman in their first meeting during the elimination round.

In the semifinals set to start on Friday the winner of the PTTEP Eagles/Barangay Ginebra-Oman will face FPI in the first game with FPI enjoying a twice-to-beat advantage.  The second game will see the winner of the Dunkin Donut/Wasalak/Badr Al Samaa-Mars game facing the much-improved of ORPIC who is also enjoying a twice-to-beat advantage by virtue of their number one spot in the elimination round.
