Sports minister, OFA discuss shoddy Gulf Cup performance

Muscat: Sheikh Saad Al Saadi, minister of sports affairs had a lengthy discussion in his office with Oman Football Association (OFA) chairman Sayyid Khalid Al Busaidi and his board on the national team's disastrous performance in 21st Gulf Cup tournament held in Bahrain recently.

Oman finished bottom of Group A with just one point from their three matches in Bahrain.
They drew 0-0 against the hosts but then lost 2-1 to Qatar and 2-0 to the United Arab Emirates.

According to the communiqué received from Ministry of Sports Affairs, Al Saadi had meetings with the OFA board to find out the reasons behind the early exit that has infuriated the football fans in the country.

The minister has also reviewed the performance of the coaching staff during the tournament and stressed the importance of drawing conclusions in the aftermath of the disastrous  Gulf Cup.

"The Ministry of Sports Affairs has entrusted the board to submit a detailed report of all the technical analysis of the tournament," said the release.
"The minister also asked OFA board to be more active in order to achieve good results in the upcoming matches,' the release added.

Al Saadi also said to have discussed about the national team's preparations for the remaining three 2014 World Cup qualifying games as well as the Asian
Cup qualifiers.

He also discussed on the AFC U-22 Asian Cup which will be hosted by Oman next month.  
"The minister has asked the board to take corrective measures in order to satisfy the fans," the release said.
