A rumour doing the rounds on social media about mozzarella cheese not melting and turning black due to reportedly containing plastic, has been refuted by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

The Ministry said in a statement posted on its official Twitter account that the Ministry’s General Directorate for Quality Standards has concluded that, based on samples it has taken from several pieces of mozzarella cheese, and putting it in an oven, the product is in line with established quality standards.

In recent months, social media users have posted their complaints on cheese not melting. A Twitter user posted a picture of a burger containing cheese that had not melted.

“Instead”, said Al Sahib, “it is natural to expose it to heat more gradually and less suddenly, as is well known with warming or cooking cheese.”

Consumers are advised not to publish judgments too quickly, in order to avoid legal repercussions, the statement said. They should contact the General Directorate in case of any complaints against a manufacturer, or contact the Ministry through one of its social media
