Omani MERS patient returns home from Thailand

Muscat: The 71-year-old Omani man who became Thailand's second Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) patient has been declared free of the virus and is now back home, permanent secretary for health Sophon Mekthon, told Thai media on Thursday.
Sophon said the Oman man's blood has been tested negative to the virus by the labs twice so it was confirmed that he had been completely cured.
Dr Sophon said 22 aircraft passengers, two taxi drivers, four hotel employees, 11 hospital staff members, and a relative who had had contact with the patient and were initially thought to be at high risk.
Speaking at the same press conference Doctor Amnuay Kajina said the Oman man was treated in the Bamrasnaradura Infectious Diseases Institute for 21 days.
Doctor Jariya Saengsajja, the director of the institute said the man and his son who were quarantined with him were discharged from the hospital Thursday. They left Thailand with two other sons of the Oman man on the same day.
