Oman State Council Education Committee hosts private higher education institute officials

Muscat: Overlapping of the study programmes at the higher education institutions were discussed when the Education and Research Committee at the State Council held its 8th meeting of the 1st annual sitting of the 6th term under the chair of Dr. Abdullah bin Mubarak Al Shanfri, Head of the Committee.
The Committee hosted Dr. Hilal bin Ali Al Hadhrami, Dean of the International Maritime College Oman (IMCO) and Dr. Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Muqbali, Assistant Chairman for Students’ Affairs at Sohar University.
The Committee discussed with them a range of key themes related to study including the mechanism for offering new study programmes by the private higher education institutions, the level of coordination among public and private higher education institutions, the bases on which the study programmes are selected, the accreditation of the scientific certificates and the number of students admitted to study programs.
The Committee also discussed the availability of reports and studies on the mechanism for offering new programs, how far they are diversified to meet the needs of the development process and the labour market and to what extent the current majors meet such needs.
The committee also addressed the challenges facing higher education institutions.
