Conlan, Ng’eno triumph at Muscat Road Runners' Summer Series opener

Muscat: Nick Conlan and Irene Ng’eno won the men’s and women’s titles respectively in the first race of the Muscat Road Runners (MRR) Summer Series organised near Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher here recently.
In the first of the six off-road races, a six-km event, Nick Conlan clocked 22:29 to take the top place in the men’s category.
Edward Black in a time of 23:20 won the second place and he was closely followed in the third place by Hamed Al Mahrooqi in 24:35.
In the women’s category, Irene Ng’eno completed the race in 27:49 to take the top honours while Sally Hart settled for the second place in 28:08. Anne Menard took the third place in 29:45.
In the 3km junior race, James emerged the winner in a time of 15:09 and he was followed by Syke in 23:04.
The participants need to compete in four races to qualify for the series T-Shirt and overall points.
The second of the Summer Series will take place at 6 p.m. on May 4.
Results: Men open: 1. Nick Conlan - 22:29; 2. Edward Black - 23:20; 3. Hamed Almahrooqi - 24:35.
Women open: 1. Irene Ng’eno - 27:49; 2. Sally Hart - 28:08; 3. Anne Menard - 29:45.
Veteran men: 1. Salah Al Wahaibi - 27:43; 2. Derek Solecki - 28:28; 3. James Shorter - 28:49.
Veteran women: 1. Francesca Aub-Robinson - 32:20.
Super veteran: 1. Cesare Porta - 33:48.
