“We will be holding two shows every night,” the spokesperson said. Officials of Stars Cinema said they will be releasing the movie on June 23.
“The timings of the show, however, have not been finalised,” the spokesperson said, adding that it will be shown after 9 pm. The film, starring Shahid Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Diljit Dosanjh in the lead, has become a major hit all over the world since it was released last week.
“We hope that the movie will do pretty good here too as there was a lot of interest in this movie last week itself,” Anuj, a Bollywood movie buff said.
The movie got a decent start in the UAE and collected around AED325,000, famous Bollywood trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted on Tuesday.
He also tweeted that the movie will be released in Oman and Kuwait next week.
Director Abhishek Chaubey’s crime drama “Udta Punjab,” is based on drug abuse in the north Indian state of Punjab.
The film has been co-produced by Phantom Films and Balaji Motion Pictures, who struggled to acquire a release certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) or censor board of Idia.
The censor board first suggested 89 cuts in the movie, and then the Revising Committee slashed its demand to 13 cuts. But the makers moved the Bombay High Court, which overruled the CBFC-recommended cuts in the film, clearing it for release with just one cut and three disclaimers by the filmmakers.
