Thousands left without cooking gas in Oman's Musandam

Muscat: Misery in Musandam persists, as the northern governorate sees its third week without enough cooking gas.

More than 42,000 people are running out of cooking gas after a massive fire destroyed the main gas supplying company in Madha.

On June 7, the Public Authority for Civil Defence reported a fire that engulfed a cooking gas company in the wilayat of Madha.

The fire was put out by firefighters. Only one person was slightly injured.

Around 150 people queued last night at a smaller gas distributing company to buy the remaining gas cylinders.

“The quantity was not enough for everyone,” said one of the people who gathered there.

Talking to the Times of Oman, Ahmed Al Kamzari, assistant director of Daba Municipality, said that he is left with only one cooking gas cylinder in his home.

“There is another supplier in Khasab but it can’t provide enough gas for the populated neighborhoods,” he said.

Residents of Musandam complained on social media about the shortage of cooking gas, urging authorities to quickly solve the issue as more than 23 days have passed since the fire took place.

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry said that it has been working on providing Musandam with cooking gas as soon as the fire took place.
