Ministry of Commerce and Industry warns about disfiguring Omani traditional dress

Muscat: Following pictures of “modified” Omani dishdasha (males traditional dress) which was circulated on social media, Ministry of Commerce and Industry warned of selling such items.

Ministry officials have recently inspected a number of clothes shops in different parts of the Sultanate to ensure that there are no displayed clothes that “violate the Omani standards by including drawing or designs to the dress which harm the public taste”.

The ministry said in a statement that such dresses are not available at local market.

“Such dresses are being sold on social media and other websites,” the statement said.

It is worth mentioning that some modifications to the Omani dress can be against the law.

The ministry called upon people to report any shop, social media account or website which market such dresses to the authorities.
