February 10, 2013 | 12:00 AM

Muscat: The Spanish Cultural Centre, part of the Omani-Spanish Friendship Association, is organising a 'Day of the Spanish Language', along with a Flamenco Show, in Muscat. The event will be held tomorrow at the Spanish Cultural Centre in front of Bareeq Al Shatti Mall, at 7 p.m.

The event will include lectures on the importance of the Spanish language across
the world.

Following the lectures, the public will be invited to participate in a Spanish party featuring flamenco dancing and Spanish food.

The event is open to students, teachers and professors, as well as members of the public wanting to learn Spanish or wishing to learn more about Spanish culture.

The Spanish language has the second largest native speakers in the world, after Chinese, and ranks third in the world in the overall number of speakers, after Mandarin and English. Spanish is also one of the six official languages of the United Nations and the third most-used language on the Internet. It is the official language in more than 20 countries.
