#OmanPride: Omani honoured for data centre plan for hospitals

MUSCAT: An Omani IT professional’s online data system which connects hospitals has won recognition in the United Kingdom.
The project titled “Design and Implementation of a Datacentre and Interconnecting Regional Hospitals in Oman” will help officials have a well-built datacenter and enable them to have easy access to patients’ details regardless of which hospital they attended in Oman.
“Medical reports are quite important in treatment management. So, having a datacenter and an easy, systemized access can help the officials and medical teams,” Ahmed Al Jabri, the brains behind the project, told Times of Oman.
The project was part of Ahmed’s IT Masters programme at the School of Engineering, University of Portsmouth, UK.
The university ranked in the top two per cent of the world’s universities in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2015, andis one of the world’s top 150 universities under 50.
Communication network
“The Masters’ programme was to learn about the communication network, planning and management. It was a challenging process. However, my hard work didn’t go in vain. I was selected as the best student and my project was the best project by the university,” Ahmed added.
According to Ahmed, who is in the IT department at the MoH for the last two decades, the project, if implemented, can help officials store the details of a patient in an organized manner and track details in a better way.
“The project can enhance information integrity, reduce transcription errors, and reduce duplication of information entries,” he added.
Ahmed’s contribution was recognized by Abdulaziz bin Abdullah Al-Hinai, ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to the UK.
“Grateful to my teachers, family, Oman’s envoy and also the MoH officials who recognized my efforts and helped me in achieving it,” Ahmed added.
“I am employee in MoH. Then also, a chance was provided by Oman government for me to pursue this course. I am thankful to them and will contribute my best from what I have learnt for the progress of the country,” Ahmed added.
