More than 5,000 expected to attend Oman fire safety, logistics exhibitions

Muscat: More than 5,000 people are expected to attend the second annual Oman Fire, Safety and Security Exhibition (OFSEC) and the Middle East Transport and Logistics Exhibition (METRANSLOG), said organisers.
Organised by Muscat Expo, Melwin D’cunha, chief executive officer of the Muscat Expo, said they are expecting between 5,000 and 7,000 people to attend during the two-day exhibition, which is conjoining the two separate exhibitions.
One hundred and fifty regional and international exhibitors combined will showcase their latest technologies, practices and solutions from both the logistics and fire and safety point of view.
Complementary
When asked why both exhibitions are being held together, D’cunha said, “Both these exhibitions complement each other and there will be many investment opportunities if they are together.”
“It is better to do it together because it is somehow interconnected with the business in Oman,” he added.
OFSEC is designed to meet the needs of the local, regional and international markets by linking practitioners, suppliers, distributors and manufacturers from the fire, safety and security industry.
METRANSLOG on the other hand is designed to meet the supply and demand of the market by bringing manufacturers, integrators, distributors and service providers to capitalise on the expanding market in the sector.
Lt. Colonel Abdullah Al Balushi, head of Public Relations at the Directorate General of Customs, Royal Oman Police, spoke about a new project called Bayan, which allows all import and export of products processes and documents to be done online. “We started Bayan in June of 2015. We are heading towards paperless procedures so everything will be done online,” said Al Balushi.
Online paperwork
“The company that wishes to import products to Oman will be able to get the paperwork done online and whether the shipment is coming by air, land or sea, customs at the entry point will have the information,” he said, adding that the DG of Customs plans to promote the initiative to increase business in the Sultanate.
60 per cent of the exhibitors will be international, while the remaining 40 per cent will be local. The exhibition will take place from September 5 to 7 at
the Oman International Exhibition Centre.
