Olympics: Oman's campaign ends with Al Khatri's failed attempt in Rio

Rio de Janerio: Oman's rifle shooter Hamed Al Khatri disappointed on the final day of Sultanate's campaing at the Rio Olympic Games by finishing 43rd in the line-up of 44 qualifiers on Sunday.
Hamed Al Khatri did not live up to expectations in the qualifying session of the men's rifle 3-position to crash out of the competition and with that curtains came down on Oman in Rio.
Al Khatri never looked to be in contention firing scores of 371 (kneeling), 397 (prone) and 367 (standing) for a tally of 1138.
Meanwhile, Indian shooters Gagan Narang and Chain Singh also failed to progress to the final.
Narang, a bronze medalist in the London Games four years ago in men's 10m air rifle, ended up even behind Chain Singh, who was 23rd, in the 33rd spot out of 44 shooters with a three-phase tally of 1162 while Chain accumulated 1169.
Chain, who looked very much in the running for a slot in the finals after the first two phases, shot 391 out of 400 in kneeling, a superb 398 with three perfect 100s in prone and 380 in standing to get knocked out of the competition.
Narang, on the other hand, never looked in contention and fired 383, 395 and 384 in the three stages of the competition.
The experienced shooter from Hyderabad, who runs an academy now, thus ended his Olympic campaign by drawing a blank in all three events he took part in - 10m air rifle, rifle prone and in 3-position.
Second for Campriani
Defending Olympic champion Niccolo Campriani won his second gold of the Games by clinching the men's 50 metre rifle three positions event on Sunday, making Italy the most successful country in the shooting in Rio with four gold medals.
Campriani, a 28-year-old who won the event in London 2012, narrowly defeated Russia's Sergey Kamenskiy who was making his Olympic debut, in the last of the 15 shooting events.
France's Alexis Raynaud took the bronze in his first Olympics at the age of 21.
Campriani also took the gold in the 10 metre air rifle event, making him the only shooter to win two golds in Rio. Italy also won three silver medals.
Dusmatov wins gold
Uzbekistan's light-flyweight Hasanboy Dusmatov won the first gold medal of the Olympic boxing competition on Sunday when he beat Colombia's Yurberjen Martinez on a unanimous points decision.
Martinez took the silver. Losing semi-finalists Joahnys Argilagos of Cuba and Nico Hernandez of the United States won the bronze medals.
Hernandez's was the first boxing medal for the U.S. men since the 2008 Beijing Games when heavyweight Deontay Wilder also won bronze.
