Muscat event to focus on Oman’s transport plan

Muscat: Oman National Transport Company (Mwasalat) will host the 7th United International Public Transport (UITP) Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Assembly in Muscat from February 12 to February 16, 2017.
The event will focus on the new vision of public transport plan and objectives in the Sultanate and will provide attendees with the chance to discuss different business opportunities through meetings with decision makers.
Future plans
Moreover, Mwasalat will present its future plans, such as the long term transport master plan including new routes in other strategic cities, construction of public transport facilities and implementation of Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS).
The United International Public Transport for Middle East and North Africa (UITP-MENA) covers an extensive area extending from Morocco in northwest Africa to Iran in southwest Asia aiming to bring together all public transport stakeholders and all sustainable transport modes.
The Assembly is a bi-annual event staged to showcase the two-year achievements of the region and will facilitate sharing of in-depth insights on a variety of information related to public transport and bus topics, with a look at the future of the sector from a unique regional perspective.
Mwasalat is a permanent member of UITP since 1983, and is the leading public transport company in the Sultanate of Oman.
Metamorphosis
The company is undergoing a metamorphosis, along with a new identity it unveils a new and novel fleet of public transport that offers a world of comfort and convenience to people in the Sultanate.
“We are determined that this conference will not be a traditional one, but a conference that focuses on the implementation of the vision of public transport in Oman and the region, combining private sectors, governments, technologists and global investors to set up a team to develop the public transportation sector for a new beginning,” said Ahmad bin Al Bulushi, CEO of Mwasalat.
Following the UITP-MENA Board meeting on February 12, a seminar will take place on February 13 while three days of training will be conducted from February 14 to February 16 on bus professionalism. Experts will share their knowledge to discuss various topics, such as different modes and innovation in bus sector, bus networks, service quality and management in bus operations through workshops, group discussions and Q&A sessions.
UITP-MENA assured that the event will host high-level bus professionals with extensive knowledge and expertise in bus transportation worldwide along with trainers and speakers that represent different approaches to addressing mobility issues.
