APL Logistics Oman to focus on solutions for different industries

Muscat: APL Logistics Oman, a new joint venture between APL Logistics and Arab Global Logistics, will focus on logistics solutions in several industries, including automotive and retail sectors.
The company, which was officially launched on Tuesday and will commence operations within four weeks in Muscat, plans to expand operations to Sohar, Salalah and Duqm at a later stage, the company’s top-level officials said.
APL Logistics Oman will spearhead efforts to develop Oman as a regional logistics hub to serve local and international customers in the Middle-East and East Africa.
“If we look at the infrastructure government has provided is fantastic. The vision of the government is to push Sohar as a hub for the Mena region. Salalah is a hub for East-West traffic, North and East Africa with the right port infrastructure and a free . That is the main reason why we are here,” said Azfar Khan, general manager, UAE, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and other Middle East and Africa, APL Logistics Middle East. Oman is not just acting for the domestic market, but as a hub for the entire region.
Beat Simon, president of APL Logistics Ltd, said that his company is a global solutions provider. “We are an enabler to realise the vision of the government,” noted Simon. The investment in Oman will depend on the local market requirements. The new Muscat-based joint venture company is backed by APL Logistics’ deep logistics expertise and global execution experience.
APL Logistics has an annual turnover of $1.6 billion with a total staff strength of 7,300 people in 100 locations.
