Oman Education Council discusses research and planning among other things

Muscat: Research and planning in higher education as well as national qualifications framework project were among the main items on the agenda of the Education Council meeting held yesterday.
The Education Council held its third meeting of the year under the chair of Sayyid Khalid bin Hilal Al Busaidi, Minister of the Diwan of Royal Court and Chairman of the Council.
The Council discussed the topics on its agenda including the introductory circular of the Ministry of Higher Education on the statistical system for higher education in the Sultanate, which is the main pillar in research and planning in higher education in the Sultanate.
The council also reviewed the report of the Omani Academic Accreditation Authority (OAAA) on implementing the first stage of developing the national qualifications framework project and the preparations for the second stage. It also reviewed a report on the progress made by Al Buraimi University Steering Committee and hailed its efforts in completing the academic infrastructure and the new campus. The Council discussed a proposal by the Ministry of Education about amending the science subject starting from grade 9.
The proposal is in line with the outcomes of the researches and studies made in some Arab and foreign countries.
On the sidelines of the meeting, the Chairman of the Council launched the official website of the Council www.educouncil.gov.om. The website gives background about the Council, its missions, the latest regional and world developments in education fields, as well as the latest updates on education in the Sultanate.
