#OmanPride: Omani biker to mark 46th National Day with 5,000km trip

Muscat: Omar Al Mamari, the Omani biker, who is the holder of the World Record Academy honour for driving the greatest distance on a motorcycle in 24 hours, is on a new mission.
From November 1 to 18, starting from Muscat, the biker plans to ride for 5,000 kilometres (km), to mark the 46th National Day celebrations.
“The idea behind this mission is to coordinate with the young people in congratulating His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said for his wise leadership.
“Through this event, we will be able to draw the attention of the international media to Oman also,” Al Mamari said.

Starting from Muscat, Al Mamari and four other biker friends will be touring Masirah Island, Ain Al Kesfah, Hawiyet Najim, Sohar, Nizwa and Bahla.
“In every town, we have made arrangements for others to join us,” Al Mamari, who is also the chairman of the Muscat Club Motorcycle, said, adding that riders from outside Oman will also be joining him.
“Riders’ clubs in Oman also will join us. However, all safety procedures will be followed strictly and we won’t allow anybody (to ride), who is not registered,” Al Mamari said. He also stressed that lectures on road safety will be held in cooperation with the Al Raffd Fund and the Ministry of Higher Education.
Al Mamari said the Ministry of Sports Affairs, Ministry of Tourism and the National Committee for Youth will support the event.
In 2009, Al Mamari drove on his Honda CBR 1100 bike from the Oman Automobile Association premises in Muscat to the city of Salalah, which is located 1,031 km south and returned back the same day, averaging a speed of 94.1 km and covering a total of 2,062 km in 24 hours, setting the world record for the greatest distance traveled on a motorcycle in 24 hours (individual).
