#OmanPride: Omani graphic designer creates poster for Saudi Oscar entry

Muscat: A poster of the movie ‘Barakah Meets Barakah,’ Saudi Arabia’s entry at the 2017 Academy Awards for best foreign language film, has been designed by an Omani.
Mohammed Al Kindi, also known as Chndy, made the vibrant poster and also promoted the motion picture after he was hired by the movie crew back in January.
‘Barakah Meets Barakah’ is a drama-comedy film, directed and written by Mahmoud Sabbagh, an independent Saudi filmmaker.
Once he watched the movie, the 24-year-old artist said he fell in love with it and did all the photographic shoots.
He is the only Omani national to have participated in the making of the 90 minutes movie.
“I designed three posters and they loved it so much, eventually deciding to use two of them,” Chndy said.
However, the success came after months of hard work.
“For the past three years, I have been flying around the gulf, working on a lot of projects,” said the graphic designer, born and raised in Oman.
Thanks to his skills in designing, photography and movie direction, Mohammed is now being sought after by big production companies.
“Things changed last yearever since I decided to push my ideas first, before the client’s,” he said, adding that he always wanted people to hire him for his taste.
Starring Hisham Fageeh and Fatina Al Bnawi, the story is about a middle class guy who meets a girl from a wealthy family, and they start a romance in a country that frowns upon it, according to IMDB. VOX Oman’s review says that ‘Barakah Meets Barakah’ tells the story of two lovers who are united in an environment hostile to dating of any kind.
