#OmanPride: New record for Bangladesh School Muscat in O-Level

Muscat: Despite studying for only three hours a day at home, Shifat Hossain, a student at Bangladesh School Muscat (BSM), earned 9 A*s in the International GCSE Examinations in June, and has set a new record for the school with her score.
“This is a new record for us, as she received A*s in all 9 subjects in her O-Level final exams,” a spokesperson of Bangladesh School Muscat said.
Speaking to Times of Oman, Shifat swears by the do-it-yourself approach. “I never attended tuitions. I believe that you should enjoy your studies, and then you can understand the chapters. Memorising is not the key to success,” she said.
Shifat has been studying at BSM since Class 4. “I dedicate my success to my late father, Mohammed Faruque Hossain, former acting Principal of Bangladesh School Jalan, who passed away two years back,” she said.
She added, “I am trying to fulfill the dream of my late father. This is not my success; this is the success of my father, and my mother, who is also a teacher at Bangladesh School Muscat, who supported and strengthened me in all difficult times,” said Shifat. Her elder brother is a student at Oman Medical College.
School authorities noted that she received 41 academic excellence certificates in different stages of her school life, throughmid-2016.
In the last O-level Examinations, she took Bangla, English Language A, Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Human Biology, Economics, Mathematics A and Mathematics B.
“She earned A*s in all subjects, which is the best- ever result of the school,” a school official said.
Shifat hopes to become a doctor and wants to serve in poor countries. “My aim in life is to serve the world,” she said.
Regarding her hobbies, she said she loves making origami – a Japanese art of folding paper into shapes representing objects, such as flowers or birds, besides playing guitar.
“When I went to Dhaka recently, I gifted everybody with my handmade decorative models out of paper, like boxes, flowers, dragon and gift boxes,” she said. Reacting to the news, her mother said, “The result of my daughter exhibits how serious and dedicated she is towards her studies. I am grateful to everyone involved in this
achievement.”
Members of the Board of Directors were also pleased with Shifat’s performance.
Iftakher ul Hasan Chowdhury, the Chairman of the Board, praised her on this remarkable achievement. “Shifat’s result reveals the maturity of the teaching standard of our school,” the Chairman said.
