Oman helps in release of Canadian citizen from Iran

Muscat: In response to the Royal Orders of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said on the request of the Canadian government for help in the release of its citizen Dr. Homa Hoodfar, detained in the Islamic Republic of Iran, the authorities concerned in the Sultanate of Oman communicated with the Iranian government for the release of Canadian citizen.

Arrangements were made yesterday for her transport onboard a Royal Air Force of Oman plane from Tehran to Muscat for her return to Canada, an official source at the Foreign Ministry said.
The Sultanate has thanked Iran for its move and hopes that such steps will help normalise relations between Iran and Canada.
Non-resident Canadian ambassador to the Sultanate, Dennis Horak expressed his thanks, appreciation and gratitude to His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, the Government of Oman and the Omani officials for the vital role the Sultanate played in the release of Dr. Homa Hoodfar. She was detained in the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The ambassador also expressed his thanks for all Iranian officials who facilitated her release in Iran. “She is in good health and delighted over her release and will stay in Muscat for a few days before she leaves for Canada,” he added.
Dr. Homa expressed her thanks and appreciation for His Majesty the Sultan and the Government of Oman for facilitating her release.
She also thanked the Government of Canada and the Government of Iran for facilitating her release and for cooperating with the Government of Oman for her return to Canada.
