Oman health: Join the breast cancer awareness fight

This month join the Pink Promise Events initiated by the Ban Cancer group and Barakath Al Noor Clinic.

Breast cancer is a silent invader, and a dreaded disease which scares every woman. The incidence is increasing every day. However, due to the growing awareness through breast cancer awareness programmes, early detection is possible. The main aim is to educate women about breast cancer and spread awareness throughout the country. Due to lack of awareness, women detect it late and the treatment is delayed. Therefore the prognosis is poor and quality of life gets affected. Breast cancer is not only for a particular age group or gender, it can happen to anyone and at any age and no single cause is identified. However, it is curable if detected early.
Women give least importance to their own health, so it is important the family including the husband, father, and children take responsibility for the women to go for regular checks.
Here in Oman on October 1, the Pink Promise Evening was held at the Safeer Ballroom in Zakher Mall, a special event for invitees who can be Ambassadors to spread the awareness on breast cancer. Fatma’s Pink Promise App was also launched to help the women to do self breast examination and regular checkup.
The Pink Parade–Beach-Walk will be held every Friday of the month, from 6.30am to 7.30am at Shatti Al Qurum Beach, where pink would be the dress code and it is to spread awareness about the importance of fitness and exercise in breast cancer. This walk will continue throughout the month from October 7 till November 4. The main aim is to spread the importance of early detection by monthly self examination, regular check ups and prompt treatment. Healthy living – nutrition, exercise, and relaxation play a major role in preventing the disease. Other events to follow in the coming weeks.
Doctor’s Tip of the Week
30 minutes brisk walking every alternate day will help reduce the incidence of breast cancer by 30%.
