Jammu and Kashmir curfew-free and peaceful

Srinagar: Indian-administered-Kashmir was peaceful on Saturday even as there was no curfew anywhere but separatist-sponsored strike continued to disrupt normal life for the 85th consecutive day.
"No untoward incident was reported from any part of the valley," a police spokesman said here on Saturday evening.
"There was greater movement of people and vehicular traffic observed in Srinagar city as also in other parts of the valley," the spokesman added.
Earlier in the day, curfew was lifted from Srinagar as the situation improved in the city. Curfew has been lifted from the areas of Srinagar where the curbs were in force on Friday and there is no curfew anywhere in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday, a police official said.
Meanwhile, a youth Muzaffar Ahmad Pandith, who was injured during clashes between protesters and security forces last month, succumbed at a hospital, taking the death toll in the ongoing unrest in Kashmir
Valley to 83. Pandith had been injured when he was hit by pellets during clashes between protestors and security forces at Chek-e-Kawoosa in Narbal area of Budgam district in second week of September,
a police official said.
The police spokesman said 51 more people were arrested during the past 24 hours in the valley where the situation remained by and large peaceful on Saturday.
"To curb the activities of trouble mongers, police arrested 51 such individuals involved in various offences of creating disturbances in different part of the valley," the spokesman said.
