Oman workshop at WTO focuses on corporate social responsibility

Muscat: Social responsibility of companies was among the main topics of discussion at a workshop organised by the Sultanate’s Office at the World Trade Organisation (WTO) in cooperation with the trade body.
The workshop was organised as part of the activities of the WTO General Forum.
Representatives of major Omani companies such as Petroleum Development Oman (PDO), Oman LNG and the Public Authority for SMEs Development participated in the event.
Economic and Financial Committee at Majlis Al Shura and the representative of the WTO in Geneva also participated in the event.
Apart from social responsibility of companies the workshop discussed the Sultanate’s experiment in supporting the participation of small and medium enterprises in the national economy.
Representatives of PDO and Oman LNG reviewed the initiatives of the two companies in supporting the SMEs and the local community, through the training programmes, provision of facilities and promotion of national products.
It is worth mentioning that the Sultanate participated, last year, in the World Trade Organisation General Forum through a workshop on consumer protection, which was the first participation of a Gulf Cooperation Council state in the event.
